At a committee meeting of the HortU cultural Society on Wednesday nigMj Mr. V. Duff was appointed secretary. ' Mr. K. J. Bullot, Moturoa, ha» received advice that his son, Private W. L. Bullet, is returning by the Ayrshire, due at Lyttelton about September 19. Mr. W. H. Worsley, headmaster %t the Hamilton West School, who has been, granted three months' leave of absence,' is to recuperate in Taranaki, At a full meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Trotting Club, Mr. D. le C. Morgan, who has been acting secretary pro tem, was appointed permanently to the position. Bandsman J. Smith, who was welcomed home from active service by the Salvation Army last night, is one of five brothers who went to the war, all of whom have returned. Three of them were members of the Salvation Army Band.

Last night's Gazette announce*' tte appointment of the following Justices of the Peace in the province of Taranaki: Henry William Bovis (Whangamomona), Michael Geever (Whangamomona), Job* Joseph Meldon (Mariaia), William Henry Nosworthy (Waitara), Michael OJSrWn (Opunake), and Herbert Wells (Pukerahue).
The death, at the ripe age of 88 yeatt, is announced of Mrs. W. McFarland, for many years a resident of Hawera diftrUt Mrs. McFarland was a lady of a most affectionate nature, and was beloved by all who knew her. She leaves a family of five—Messrs Jas. and William MeFarland, Mrs. Curie, Mrs. H. HaWwefl, and Miss McFarland.—Star.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Rielly, Hine Street, have received word that their son, Private E. J. Rielly, who went with the Ninth Reinforcements, is returning by the Athenic, due at Wellington about September 1; also that Private W. 0. Rielly, another son, who went with tie 31st Reinforcements, is returning by the Hororata, due at Wellington about September 20.
Sergeant W. G. Mace, eldest to* of Mr. Harry Mace, of Now Plymouth, ii returning to New Zealand on tb« Bow** rata, which is due at Wellington about r September 20. Sergeant Mace WW a member o( the advance Expeditionary Force which left New Zealand in Augutt, 1014, for Samoa. After returning from Samoa, he re-enlisted and sailed with the machine-gun section of the 24th Reinforcements.
Mr. Thomas Henry Foy, an old and respected settler, died at Huwera, on Saturday. Deceased was bnm in Hull (Yorkshire), England, in 1831), and arrived with his parents in Cloudy Bay, Nelson, in December, 1842- . Mr, Foy'» parents settled in Nelson, but Mr. Foy moved to Waverlcy and Hawera, and hud resided at the latter place since 1593. Deceased was for many yeart a trustee of St- John's Method'it Church, Nelson, and on going to Ha vera became a trustee of "the local Methodist Church, which position he continued to hold until his death. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Arthur, Herbert, and James, all of Hawera, and five daughters, Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Ashwin (both of Auckland), Mrs. Martin, and Miss E. Foy (Hawera), and Miss M. Foy (of the Wellington Harbor Board staff).
