(From Our Own Correspondent) .\ug. 28. The Uniial fortnightly dance of the Clifton Football Club was held in +l.e Clifton Hall last night, a very enjoyable time being spent- The mnsn- was supplied by Mr. J. Taylor and was all that could be desired. Messrs. S. 1). George and F. Procter were M.C'.'s.
"he following soldiers returned trom aci-ivc service by the train yesterday afiwnoon: Driver L. Bell, Lance-Corporal C, Fulton, Private A. L. Johnston.', J rivate W. J. Mnrruy (Uruti), Private R. A. Morgan, and Lance-Corporal C. E. H. Putt (Urenui). The Mayor met the returned men at Lepperton Junction, and welcomed them home.
A meeting is to be held tJ morrow night to arrange a ball to welcome returned soldiers.
I hear that Mr. J. W. Laing lias refused the offer of the position of secretary to the Waitara Harbor Hoard. The office work in the meantime is to be done by Mr. L. H. Sampson. The Taranaki representative team, which is to play Wellington, at Wellington on Saturday week, is going through in Mr. C H. Johnston's motor bus, which will leave to-day week. Mr. Herbert Elliot, of this town, and Miss Gernhoefer, of Inglewood, were married here yesterday. They mtend to reside at Mahoenui.
