(Prom Our Own Correspondent) At a special meeting of the Lincoln Road branch of the Moa Dairy Company a proposal to instal a casein* plant was enthusiastically carriedMr Bowler, who presided, uttered a note of warning regarding offers being made by proprietary concerns operating in the district. He ivmimled suppliers that years ago the to-operative companies bought out the proprietary concerns so as to get full value for their labor and produce. The installation of the dairy plants and the enterprising policy followed were largely responsible for the present position of the dairy industry and the enhanced value of land It would be impossible to predict wlui.l the future held out for them, but it was essential that farmers should stick together and resist the encroachment of outside concerns which were endeavoring to get in the thin edge of the welge that was intended to seriously affect if not destroy the co-operative movement and all it stood for. • The advent of fine weather has set cricketing enthusiasts moving. A club is to be formed, and a meeting is shortly to be convened.
Mr Geo. Gudgeon, the local golfer, has left for Palmerston, to take part in the golfing tournament. The animal meeting of the local Returned Soldiers' Association was held on Saturday. It was decided to canvass for subscriptions in order to wipe off the remainder of the debt on the new club rooms. The following officers were elected:—President, Captain H. Thompson; vice-president, Captains Gilbert. Grant and Cameron, and Lieutenants Ayling and Blackburn; treasurer, Mr Carmine; secretary, Mr A. Bailey; committee, Messrs H.'Henderson F. Codd, F. Price, P. Chapman, G. Marsh, A. Gillicc, G. Raynor, C. Miles, and Rev. Bensley. A collision between two cars occurred near Egmont Village on Saturday after-' noon last. It appears that the afternoon mail car from New Plymouth met a car containing a number of young ladies going to New Plymouth, and driven by Mr Cattloy. The mail car driver, F. Lawson, and one of the occupants were thrown out and injured. Both cars wore badly smashed. .7. Haldane, of the New Plymouth exchange, was conveyed to Nurse Bennett's hospital, where the doctor found that li is face was badly cut about and his left shoulder dislocated.
The fire brigade ball, which eventuated on Thursday evening, was a big success, the accommodation being severely tax.«d. The floor was in good order and the music and supper first-class. A substantial sum will be handed over to the brigade. A remark indicating -the acuteness of the house situation in New Plymouth was passed here to-day. A resident of our seaport was standing gazing at a house that is to he removed to an adjoining site, He enquired if it was to let, and before waiting for nn answer, ejaculated: "Put it on a motor lorry and take it to New Plymouth. You'll gat SO bob a week for it!"
