DISTRICT NEWS.
ROWAN. On Friday, August 15, a most successful nnd enjoyable Children's Plain and Fancy Dress Ball was held In the hall. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags and greenery, nnd when the children in their fancy dresses arrived the scene was brilliant. Mr. T. Maindonald performed the duties of chairman in his usual genial manner, Mrs. Macfle generously supplied the music, while Mr. C. Maindonald ably carriod out the duties of MC. The ball opened with the grand march, led by two tiny tots In Butch costumes—Lois Wells and Jimmie Lines. Mr. A. Burroughs piped for the marching, and also for the Highland schottisehe, danced by two lassies in kilts,— Cnrrlo Lines and Jean McCandlsh. The enjoyment of both children and grown ups was greatly added to by the presence of Topsy and Uncle Sam (of Peace fame), who worked untiringly to amuse all and sundry. The children danced till about 11 p.m, when an excellent supper was handed round, and then the adults toolt the floor. Prlezs for best fancy dresses were won by (Scotch lassie), F. McCandlish (starlight fairy), (Pierrot), F. McCandlish (Starlight Fairy), and It. Jackson (Undo Sam). Those In fancy dresses were: Girls, E. Smith (Gipsy), E. Lines (Japanese), E. Gardiner (fortune-teller), M. Cuost (butterfly), C. Lines Scotch lassie), F. McCandlish (starlight fairy), J. McCandlish (Scotch lassie), V. Mullow (Flower girl), 0. Gardiner (flower girl), R. Jones (Red Cross nurse), B. McFle (Red Cross nurse), M. Alalndounld (Rcd-Tldlng-hood), D. Mellow (fairy), M. Mellow (Mt. Egmont), L. Guest (Miss MulTett), L. Jackson (daffodil), L. Sanne (Japanese), A. Rowell (flower-girl), M. Gardiner (Miss Multett), R. Jackfon (Red Cross nurse), L. Willis (Dutch girl), B. Sanne (tassel). Boys: R. Wheeler (Maori), L. Jackson (Japanese), R.
