AVIATION IN CANTERBURY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 21. Colonel Bettington says that it will be impossible to make nn aerial flight from Christchuvch to Wellington owing to there being no aerodrome here. He exr pects flights will take place at Christchurch in eight or ten days. The machines have great speed and require l%vel ground to start from and alight on. A 44 HOURS' WEEK. Christchurch, Last Night. The employees in the iron trade in Christchurch will proceed at the coming bitting of the Arbitration Court for a U hours' week in place of the present 47 hours week. This action will be taken under the War Regulations Act, which provides for amendments in regard to hours as well as wages, but up to the present its provisions regarding hours have not been taken advantage of in Canterbury. The workers will oppose iiny reduction in pay to correspond with the reduction of hours. UNLOADING OF IIAMART HELD UP. Auckland, Last Night. The condition of the troopship Mamari was considered at a meeting of the Auckland waterside workers this morning, when it was agreed to abide by the resolution affirming the intention of the men not to work any vessel that had been infected with influenza until seven days had elapsed after the removal of the last patient. On the arrival of the Mamari yesterday the port health officer ordered one patient and ten contacts into quarantine, deeming this a sufficient precaution. The wutersiders, under the impression that the liner was a clean Rliip, commenced work, but reconsidered their decision, with the above result, this morning. She has over 4000 tons of coal to discharge at Auckland, this cargo being loat'ed at Newport News. STRUCK GOLD. Thames, Aug. 21. A private claim on the Wniotahi Creek has been worked single handed for some time. Lately, three men struck gold, the leader recently steadily improving. The return for the last fortnight was CO ounces of gold. The nest clean up is expected to be better. ,
