ELTHAM.

CATHOLIC BAZAAR. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A bazaar in aid of the Kltham Convent Building Fund was opened in the Eltham Town Hall on Monday evening by the Mayor (Mr. G. W. Tayler) in the presence of a large crowd of people. Those in charge of the stalls were:: Fancy stall (1), Mesdames McGarry and Cronin; fancy stall (2), Mesdames Green, Thornhill, Humphreys, and Casey; produce, xMesdames Kelleher and Necs; sweets, Mrs. Quinn. A glance at the stalls showed that the preparations for the bazaar had involved a great deal of labor. There were articles in great variety for sale, and they were most invitingly displayed. Young ladies and children from Stratford, who had been trained by Miss Edwards (Hawera), entertained the crowd with fancy dances, including Dutch and Japanese dances and a pastoral ballet. Music for the dances was played by Miss Bowler.

The tug-of-war tournament, which is to run for three nights, aroused much interest. The Bacon Company beat Lowgarth and the Hibernians beat the Soldiers' A team. Mr. J. Qui n acted as judge, and Mr. F. Vincent as timekeeper. A number of competitions were held, and resulted as follows: Turkey, Mrs. T Wilson (Stratford); bam, Mr. L. Theobnld; handkerchief satcher, Miss Humphreys. The offlciula worked very hard to make the bazaar a success, and excellent work was done by Mrs. McGarrv, who carried out the secretarial duties. Last night a special picture programme was put on Songs were also given, and supper was served after the pictures. To-night the final of the tug-of-war will be pulled, songs will be sung by Messrs Cooper Bros., and children's action songs will be given. A vote of thanks was passed after the opening to the Mayor for his kindness in assisting.
