AN ACCOMPLISHED SWINDLER.
A PBUEDO NEW PLYMOUTH FRUITERER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Four charges of having obtained credit to the extent of nearly £SO by fraud from an Auckland fruit and produce merchant, were preferred against James H. Johnson, alias William R. Hill, alias Johnßorcy aged 62 years, in the Supreme Court. Accused, who was found guilty, conducted operations from New Plymouth.
In sentencing accused to eighteen months' imprisonment, Judge Chapman said the long and short of it was accused was an accomplished swindler, and there was no doubt his appearance was one of his assets in carrying on the practices complained of.
