THE COAL QUESTION
NO SHIPS LOADING GOAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday Night. A statement was inado by Mr. MoVilly to-day in reference to criticism levelled by Mr. Smith M.P. The department was unaware of any intimation , that the ship owners would bring coal to N:Z. on condition that they obtained back loading of timber. On the contrary the shipping companies were unable to accept the offer of the Railway Department for the conveyance of a large quantity of coal from Australia. ( DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. Wellington, August 18. ; A deputation of miners and transport workers met the ministry in reference to the recent coal conference. Mr. Massey replied, recognising the importance of the dispute. The spokesman of tbe deputation explained what they desired, and waa considered the opinion of tbe whole cabinet
