" Christchurch, Last Night. The Canterbury Jockey Club was favoured with excellent, weather for the second day of the Grana .{rational fleeting, ' The crowd was not nearly as' large as on Tuesday, but under such»favorable conditions the racing, though not /is' keen as on the'flrat day, was enjoyable. The machine total was £54,680, as compared with £68,214 foe the second day last year. ■ ' The Woolstpn Handicap was won nicely by Moorabbe, who took' charge from Sweet Smile below the distance, and Came on to win by three lengths from; BoiuMtte, who made a better showing than Oji. Tuesday. Stray Shot, Bho was always ifbU "placed, and. Pott Haste were running on at the finish. The Hunt Club Cup' provided a fine display of Jumping, Six Cylinder being the .only one to fall, and six furlongs" from home Graftella and Lawsuit were always at the head of the petd, and though the former drew (Way, rounding the turn, Lawsuit was, on his, Quarters at the last Jump, and was beaten by a length In a good finish. Tradltor was A decent fourth, but Fairy Finn was" lart all the way. Graftella and Lawsuit were best backed. Pretty Bobby was made a good favorite for the Sumner Handicap, but was beaten handily py Slack Mountain. Tamaroa and AH Serene Showed the way to the straight, where (Hack Mountain, who had always been in third place, headed them, and the favorite could make no. impression on h)m In the run to the post. Glenshlne finished fairy well in third place. Those' who noticed the w,ay Black Mountain finished In the Avonhead Handicap on Tuesday participated In a decent dividend. There was sever much doubt about the I August Handicap. Llonskln, Cerberus, and Redshirr raced |n that order throughout, and none of the rest ever got near them. Llontkln was always going better than the others and Won very comfortably by a good length. Hlero was fourth, followed by Bellshlre and Parisian Diamond, who was a better favorite than Cerberus. The Grand National Hurdle race provided a popular win for Sir Solo, the game old horse who h«d been placed in this race three tunes running. Rewl Poto showed momentarily la front, giving plf.ee to Signature, but at the second hurdle, Sir Solo jumped to the front. Jeannot went with him for a inile and three-quarters, hut rounding the top turn Signature was in second place, with Paraoa handy. The latter closed on tho leader, running to the last hurdle, but once on the flat, Sir Solo held his own, winning by n food two lengths. Signature struggled on into third place', followed by Cynic, Oraahu, Master Moutoa and Jeannot at Intervals. Rewl Poto fell at the mile and a quarter post, and Art lost his rider at the last hurdle, Cynic tumping across him. and Multive lost his Mder at the last hurdle. Manawapanga was made a rather better favorite than Gang Awa' for the Beaufort Steeplechase, but the latter cave nothing a chance. Morecambe went off In the lead with him, but fall at the first fence. Manawapanga was hunted along all the way, but eould never reach Gang Awa' who won very filcely from Walmal, the top weight running a great race, and being evidently on the imi.proy.B. Reformation, who was not quite as well backed as' Wild Pilgrim, went out to win the jjpreydon*. Hurdles .from end to end, and euceeeded with*!* apparent offort. ( Tlp Up, 9ho is not 4 proficient jumper, • showed up at ibe last turn, but could make no impression on Reformation, and Wild Pilgrim was a fair third. This was Reformation's first win in two seasons. Seville fell after going half a Bile. In the Islington Handicap, Elocution was In front and led to the straight, followed by All Orer, Rialngham, and Foot Up. When heads wore straightened up, Form Up shot through on the rails and was clear of All Over and Risingham. This pair had a great battle for second Slaw, All Over, who was two lengths behind 'mm Up, beating Blsingham by a neck, with Kilkee well up for fourth place. Kilkee, (or once, began well, but could not go the pap; In the early stages. THJBD DAY HANDICAPS. Cbiistchuroh, Last Night.
