KILLED BY GAS FUMES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.' Sydney, August 14. Michael Carrig, a boileraaker, who was working inside a tar still at the Mortlake gasworks was overcome by a sudden rush of fumes. His companion, Robert Allen, gave the alarm and went to his assistance, but while looking for Carrig collapsed. Another workman then atempted his rescue, but was also overcome after several attempts. The three bodies were recovered later, —Aue.-N.Z. Jable Assn.

FISHING PARTY MISSING. Invercargill, August 17. Anxiety is felt for the safety of a party of five men who left Half Moon Bay for Rhuggedy in an ordinary fishing boat on August 7. The party was comprised of James Cosgrove (storekeeper), Graham (owner of the boat and late of Auckland), William M'Ciihbon. and two brothers Sievewright (of Bluff). There was rough weather after the boat left and the party may have sought shelter. Three boats are now out searching.

FALL UNDER MOVING TRUCK. Taunmnmui, Last Night. A serious accident to C. Trcngrove, a settler employed at Stevens, Henderson and Co.'s mill, was caused through his falling under a moving truck. He sustained a compound fracture of the right arm. Medical aid was obtained, and the man was removed to the Taumarunui Hospital.

A MAORI BOY KILLED. Gisborne, Last Night. The police have received information of a fatal accident under unusual circumstances, at. Makorori beach on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a Maori boy, Timi Whakatari, nine years of age. Deceased was in a trap with his uncle and a Maori girl, who was sitting in the front seat, the lad being at the back. The party left Manutuke to proceed to Tatapouri, but on the beach the horse became restive and played up, and the lad fell out, breaking his neck. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was recorded, no blame being attachable to the driver.
