CLIFTOX v. OKATO. (From Our Waitara Correspondent.) August 12. The football match between Clifton and Okato, played at Waitara on Saturday, wivs not a brilliant exposition of football, though Clifton gave some good passing rushes at time*. The Clifton forwards did not get tho ball as much as they should have done, though they appeared the heavier team. Okato played with the sun in their eyes the first spell, and as the score was only fl at half-time, it looked as if in the second spell Okato might even things up; but Clifton scored more freely in the second half with the sun against them than they had done in the first half, Goodwin. by n dodgy Nln, scored the fimt try from n pass by Kupe. No goal resulted. Fuller scored the second try, which was also unconverted. The third try was scored soon after the spell for half-time by Stewart, who grounded the ball in a good position, but again the kick failed. Clare, who was playing a good game in the forwards, then attempted to cnoes the line, but was brought down, but not before lie had passed the ball to iStewart, who again Bcored. George kicked a splendid goal. This made the score 14 to nil. Goodwin, by a dodgy run, scored the next' try, from which George landed a goal. The points were now 10 .T, Taylor, from a piece, of good following up, scored' the next try, from which ..George again kicked » goal, making the score 24. Okato then attacked strongly, and a rather easy try wa? scored, from which Eustace kicked a goal. The game ended with the scores: Clifton 24, Okato 5.
