WELLINGTON REP. GAMES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union to-night decided to ask Manawatu to play a return match at Palmerston on September 6, Instead of September 13. A grant of £SU to the Taranakl Union to cover expenses in sending a team to Wellington was made. THE NEW RULES. Auckland to be civex another CHANCE. Wellington, Last Night. The question of amended rules was again discussed by tho Management Committee of the N?w Zealand Rugby Union to-night, The Auckland Union forwarded the following telegram: "Five notified rules were played August 2 and y. We respectfully submit for consideration of your committee that under tho rules of the New Zealand Union tho playing of these modified rules In the inter-club matches as solely within the control of the local union, and does not constitute any breach of any rules of the New Zealand Union." Speakers expressed disngreoment With the view of y the Auckland Union. Eventually the following resolution was parried: "The effect of the letter received from tho .English Rugby Union being that no amendments or modification of the rules of the game can be Intro* duced, this committee promulgates as inInstructlons to all affiliated union that until the next meeting of delegates on September 19, none of the amended rules are to be played. Falling compliance with these instructions, the committee will be compelled to deal in a drastic manner with any union not ao complying. The consequent refusal to comply will mean the suspension of any union concerned.'' It was decided to telegraph Instructions to al< unions Immediately. Members generally expressed the opinion that it would be better to give the Auckland Union another chance before taking any drastic action in the direction of suspension.
In tho Walroa competition, Patea debated Waverley by 10 to 8. Palea juniors defeated Alton by 15 to 3.
An unusual and rather amusing Incident occurred during the recent senior football match between the Opaku native toam and the Waverley team, says the Patea Press. The ball was rolling along the ground near the Waverley goal when a native player who was eager to score made a rush and took a speculative kick at It when, to his amazement. It went over the bar. He was still further amazed when the referee blew his whistle and, rightly, of course, gave a goal to the native's team. Bis fellow players warmly congratulated the kicker on Ills prowess whilst the astonished native for some time could scarcely realise what he had Inadvertently done. FIRST JUNIORS. | STAR v. MIDHIRBT.
