ELECTRICAL MATTERS.

To the Editor. Sir, —I notice Mr Lyon in his letter of Friday 7th inst. infers that I claim to be an expert on matters electrical. This is just what I do,not, and for that verv reason I told your representative that I could not discuss charges on house power rate as quoted by Mr Lyon. Now, one oilier correction to Mr Lyon —my figures showing tho loss on Lake Coleridge scheme were not taken from Mr James l.owe's report, as X, as well as Mr Lyon recognised that Mr Lowe was engineer for a gas company, and that this report might be other than impartial. The figures were actually taken from those given by the engineer of tho electrical branch 'of the Public Works Department to the Minister of Public Works (see Public Works Statement, 1918, page 45). I think also it was on these same figures that Mr Lowe wrote his reports. If Mr Lyon is really anxious to get at the true position, Mr Bartley, electrical engineer for the Borough Council, who is an expert, will be only too pleased to give him the information and put him on the right track in making a correct comparison between the Coleridge scheme and New Plymouth. Having got the information I think Mr T.yon will see the charges that New Plymouth propose are fair and reasonable and compare favorably with those in connection with any other scheme in New Zealand.—l am, etc., J. CLARKE.
