THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
PREPARATIONS FOR THE SESSION, j (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, August C. The return of Mr. Massoy and Sir Joseph Ward and the announcement that Parliament will meet on August 26 have intensified interest in the political situation. Members of the Ministry now in Wellington do not know what will be tlie course of events during the next few months. They may have their individual opinions, which are net all in agreement, but they are waiting for consultation with 1 the party leaders before they accept definite plans of any kind. The two party leaders have indicated that they will not make decisions until they have met their colleagues and parliamentary supporters. The Ministers are making their preparations fsr the session in the normal way. They are gathering reports and documents and framing Bills dealing with various matters of a more or less urgent nature. This would happen in any case, of course, since departmental activities must proceed whatever happens to Ministries, but it appears that Ministers expect the National Government to meet Parliament. Some of the Bills that are in hand will have to be dealt with this session, since delay until a session following the general election would produce serious difficulties. Ministers do not expect the session to last less than a month, and they will not be surprised if it extends to six or eight weeks. 1
