PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. A meeting of the New Plymouth Patriotic Committee was held last njght, the deputy-chairman (Mr. J. W. Chaney) presiding, there being also present: Messrs. J. Iloskin, Jackson, C. I'j. lleUringer, J. R. Hill, ,J. Paton (treasurer), and L. M. Monteath (secretary), Apologies were received from Mr. and Mrs. C. 11. Burgess, Archdeacon Evans, and Mr. G. Fraser. A letter was received from the Taraliaki War Relief Association indicating that a general meeting of permanently disabled soldiers would be held at Stratford on August 22, for the purpose of discussing what should be done for them. It was pointed out that General Richardson would be present at the meeting. committee decided to obtain the names of all the permanently disabled soldiers in the district, and to arrange to take those to Stratford who desired to attend the meeting. Notice of motion was given by Mr. J. Paton that the balance of funds in hand on September 30th, be equally apportioned between -the Church of England Institute at Rotorua, the Saltation Army, the Soldiers' "Club, and tha Soldiers' Hostel.
It was decided to make a grant of £o towards prizcß in connection witji amusements at the Waikato (Cambridge) Sanatorium for soldiers. Applications for grants were received from several soldiers and dependents, and recommendations were made according to the merits of each ease.
