HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
GENERAL MEETING. ' A meeting of those interested in the New Plymouth Horticultural Society was held in the Soldiers' Club last night, Mr. G. Gibson presiding over an attendance of about 25 ladies and gentlemen. Minutes of the meeting held on June 20th, 1917, at which a credit of £23 was disposed of, were confirmed. On the motion of Messrs. S. W. Shaw and N. K. McDiarmid, it was decided that the society should resume its activities and hold annual shows.
The election of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows: President, Mr. N. K. McDiarmid; vicspresidenta, Mrs. E. Dockrill and Mr. G. Gibson; auditor, Mr. W. C. Weston; committee, Mesdames Alexander, Morrison, Ellerm, Misses Stephenson-Smitii, and Hempton, Messrs. L. B. Webster, J. JlcCormiek, J. Baillie, and T. Dickson; secretary, Mr. E. Ellerm, The newly-elected president then took the chair.
The question of holding shows was then discussed and ultimately a recommendation was made to the eommittea to take into consideration the matte? of holding a Spring Show in the first week of December, and also a Chrysanthemum Show in April. A special vote of thanks was accorded the late president (Mr. G. GibBon) for his services to the society in the past, and satisfaction expressed that his assistance would still be available to the society. In acknowledging the vote, Mr. Gibson paid a warm compliment to the members of the committee for the way in which they had supported Mm.
