TUTUTAWA. (From Our Own Correspondent)' The Diggers of Tutulawa entertained the settlers of the district on Friday last with .1 dance, as a return for the hearty welcomes home accorded them on their return after having done their duty for the Empire'B cause. .The hall was most tastefully decorated, the prevailing colors being red, white and blue, interspersed with Chinese lantorns and fairy bells Willi pungas suspended from the roof, the whole illuminated with arc lights, giving a very brilliant and fairy like appearance. Before the dancing commenced the chairman, Mr Holly, spoke briefly In- reference to the dance and its object, which was appreciation for kindness received. Mr Holly also made sympathetic roference to the ' Simpson family's absence owing to their late bereavement, mentioning that the postponement of their dance for a fortnight was owing to the demise of the late Mr F. W. Simpson. There was a verv large attendance in spite of the Inclement weather, all the surrounding districts being represented. Mr L. Walker made a most efficient M.C. Music was provided by the Coreen family (piano, cornet an£ violin), and extras by. Messrs Wylie and Smith.- Dancing went merrily on till 11 o'clock when a halt was called for supper, which was of the best, dancing being then resumed till 2 o'clock when a second halt was called for further refreshments, after which the light fantastic was continued till about 4 o'clock, bringing to a close a most enjoyable and memorable night's amusemei*':..

PUNIHO. (From Our Own Correspondent) Farewells are the order of the day in Puniho just now. On Saturday night a very jolly time was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs Greenway, when a surprise party, consisting of a number of their Puniho friends;' visited ■ them for the purpose of bidding thera farewell and wishing them success and happiness In their new home' at Omata. The singing of "We Won't go Home, till Morning"'and flic barking or dogs announced the arrival of the visitors, who were warmly welcomed. The hours slipped merrily by while songs and recitations, Interspersed with stories and jokes, were rendered. After supper, Mr Carey, In a neat speech, referred to the. sterling qualities of the host and hostess, wishing them on behalf of the visitors, all happiness and prosperity in their new home. He then called on Mrs Evans to present them, on behalf of their Puniho friends, some of whom were unavoidably absent, with a pair of solid silver serviette rings, suitably Inscribed. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and cheers for the host and hostess brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
