UNION OF CHURCHES.
DEBATED AT TIMARU. Ry Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. ~ The Timaru Presbytery to-day considered the question of the union of churches. Revs. Tocfcer (fleraldine), in the absence of Rev. Stinson (Trinity), moved, and the Rev. Ussher (St. Andrews) seconded, a motion in favor of union, provided a satisfactory basis of union could be agreed upon. The Revs. Harries (Chalmers) and ®fgg (Highfield) moved an amendment that, while union is desirable, on practicable grounds the denominational system, which h&s not been without its uses, cannot be suddenly brought to an end without a grave risk of increasing the evils of dissent and disunion, whose removal is chiefly aimed at; that the Presbytery would favor a federation of tho churchea, but at the present time the churches are too divided, and feels that there ig not behind the movement the spiritual impulse which would war-' rant a change so great and irrevocable. After the amendment was carried by 7 to 5.
