THE HUN NAVY. MERCHANTMEN FIRST. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. London, Aug. 1. Mr. Eonar Law said the Peace Conference had not decided the fate of the Goeben or salved tlic Scapa warships. The Government realised the enormous amount of repairs necessary for alarchant ships, and would not agree to undertaking extensive repairs to warships to the detriment of more urgently needed merchantmen.—Aus. Britaifi has notified Holland that she cannot recognise the sale for £220,000 of the Hamburg-Amerika liners sold to a liutch firm from Germany, as they fall within the armistice and must be sent to a British poft. Mr. Long, in the House of Commons, said the Government did not propose to hold a Court of Inquiry into the Beuttling of the warships at Scapa Flow. REWARDING THE BRAVE. MEDALS FOR SEAMEN. . London, Aug. 1. Tlio British war medal will also be granted to British and overseas mercantile mariners, including pilots, fishermen, of crews of pilot boats. The qualifying period is six months. The mercantile marine war medal will be granted to all the foregoing who served- at least one voyage in the danger zone.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
