Stratford, Saturday Night. At a, largely attended meeting of the Stratford branch of the Jersey Breeders' Association reference waa made by the president (Mr. F. Ranford) to the Jersey Derby to be held in connection with the next local A. and P. Show. Mr. Ranford briefly outlined the conditions which made it necessary for 20 bulls and 30 cows of two years and over to be on' the grounds. Only two prizes of £SO each could be awarded to the champion bull and champion cow. There would be no second prizes out of the £IOO- He urged that all Jersey breeders should give their utmost support to the competition, under which the question of what breeder had the beat bull or the best cow in New Zealand could be determined. There was a record attendance at the Cardiff schoolroom on Friday evening, when Private Norman Stewart was tendered a social on his return from active service. Mr. G. A. Marcliant, who presided, presented the guest of the evening, on behalf of the residents, with an illuminated address. The evening was mainly spent in dancing, good music being provided by Mrs. Bianchi, while Mr. Clem Cold-well acted as M.C. The Rev. J. D. Madill, Mrs. Madill, and family left Stratford for Auckland on Saturday. Mr. Madill expects to sail tor Sydney on Monday, and will immediately -proceed to Melbourne, Mrs. Madill will remain in Auckland for, probably, two or three weeks before going to Australia.
Mr. and Mrs. Judd, on the eve of their leaving the district, were, during the week, entertained by their Stanley Road friends at Smith's tea-rooms, and were presented with a silver hot water jug. Gunner A. Sangster, Rifleman Brian Richmond, and Privates H. Hansen, and J. Sheriff were entertained at a banquet and social at Stanley Road on Tuesday evening. On behalf of the residents, eacu was presented by the chairman (Mr. T. H. Wellington) with an illuminated address. The gifts were acknowledged for all by Rifleman Richmond. Songs were given by Misses Martin (2) and Sangster and Messrs Aitken and (Sherlock. Mrs. Gibbs and Mr. G. Knox sang a duet. The accompaniments were played by Misses Sole, Scott, and Stewart. For the dance, music was provided by Mis 3 Hubs, and extras were played by Miss Scott and Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Chard Was M.C- A good supper was provided. On Tuesday evening the Egmont Parliamentary Debating Club will discuss a Bill having for its object the standardisation of dress. POSTED DIRECT FOR 2s Cd.
