Edward Frank Knight was charged with arson, by burning his own tenjI porarily unoccupied cottage at Waimate, end perjury in denying at the first inquiry tha,t he Was near the house on the evening before the fire, which pecurred at night. The jury retired at 10.18 p.m. and returned four hours later with » verdict of not guijty of arson, jnlt disagreed as to the charge of perjury. A I>eW trial was ordered.
