INGLEWOOD.

There was a good attendance at the Scout Hall on Wednesday last, when it was decided to form a choral society in Inglewood. Plenty of talent is available, but more will be welcomed. A further meeting is called for Wednesday, 30th inst., when all intending members are asked to bo in attendance. The returned soldiers' fancy dress Ml took place at the Town Hall last Thursday evening, and was a pronounced success, the hall being artistically befiagged. The assortment of fancy dresses lent a picturesque coloring to the scone, the floor was in good condition, and accommodation was severely taxed- The music provided by" Miss Curd's orchestra was excellent, extras being rendered by ladies and gentlemen present. Mr. P. Lawson acted as judge of the waltzing competition, which was won by Miss K. Spurdle and . Mr, .' Errington. Miss Esse ("Harem") and Miss Grossman "Totalisator") wore placed as winners of the fancy dress in the ladies' competition, whilst Mr. F. Lawson carried off' the honors for the gentlemen. Mrs. J. Sutherland was judge. The Mayor attended the Scout meeting, last Friday evening, and presented Scouts N. and L. Ross and W, Drake with King Scout badges. These are the first boys to win the distinction in the district, and the awarcls represent a high mark attained in scout work. The children's peace ball eventuated on Friday evening, and the Town Hall .locikcd at its best, being lighted with rfld,. white, and blue electric lights; fajicy dresses representing all the nations were but a few of the various 'characters personified, whilst the local "Robert" by name, was brought in .at various intervals and created, much amusement amongst the children. TIIO whole arrangements were a credit to the promotors, whilst the , mothers merit special praise for turning the wee folk out in such a way. A big band of mothers dispensed supper to the youngsters, who enjoyed a red-letter night. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. Sutherland) and Mr. Stockman provided the music gratuitously, being assisted with extras by ladies and gentlemen present A special meeting of parishioners of St. Andrew's Parish was held last evening to consider the proposal to erec.t a peace memorial church in Inglewood. The present church, which has given useful service, is quite inadequate for present needs. It was decided to go on with the proposal to raise the sum of £2500 to build a temple to the glory of God and in memory of thoso slain in battle, all names, irrespective of creed, i be perpetuated on tablets within the

proposed/ church. The meeting was enthusiastic. The sum of £SOO is already in hand, and it is anticipated that the funds will be forthcoming. A committee was set'up, and subscription forms will be sent out. Mrs. Parker, who for the past four years has conducted refreshment rooms here, has left for Hawera. .During their stay in Inglewood Mrs. Parker and family made many friends, who wish them every success in their new venture.
