LEAGUE PLAY AT AUCKLAND. J Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Senior League football on Saturday was marred by an unruly crowd In the match between Fonsonby and Newton. Partisans of one side made a demonstration against the referee in the closing stages of the game, and encroached on the Bold, interfering with play. Tho referee rightly declared the game off, and the match will have to be replayed. WANGANUI DEFEATS MANAWATU. Wangamii, July 26. A representative Rugby Union game between Wanganui and Wellington was played here today In brilliant weather, the homo side winning a fast and open game by 22 points to 8. Play In the early stages was even. Connop and Dalnes scored for the home side, Head converting one. Carroll scored for the visitors, Stewart converting. At half time Wanganui : .cd by 8 to 5. A moment later a Star back failed to take the ball, and Taylor scored as a result of fast following up. Gcorgo added the | major points. Play now travelled up and down Held, Clifton and Star being forced in succession. Pennlall neatly Intercepted, and gained considerable ground, but George, with a long kick, lined, and a spell of even play ensued,- Pennlall next lined at the corner, and In the resultant play Copestake kicked rather hard, and Clifton forced. Star forwards— notably Bhichor, Spence and Koea—were putting great vim into their work, but Clifton backs and forwards held them well. Sheppard, fumbling a high kick, let Clifton through, and play hovered for a while under Star's goal, until Manu marked and the visitors eleand their goal. Spence and Koea led the star forwards down field, and Maim opened out tho game Pennlall and Hamlin gave the local team anxious momonls with passing bouts, but George, Tale ilnd Goodwin saved. Star, however, could not be denied, and from a free kick Sutherland landed a nice goal. Almost from the kick-off Richards secured, and, after a nice run, kicked Copestake, following up, scored, and Sutherland converted. Star were now playing with groat dash, but Clifton forwards held them, and Clifton backs, lining well, saved the situation. A fast spell followed, the ball travelling up and down the field until Star forwards, led by Blucher and Reynolds, set up a rush, and the latter scored Sutherland failed to goal. Star made strenuous efforts to further reduce Clifton's lead, which was now down to eight, but Kune marked, and a long-kick by George relieved Clifton took a turn at attack, and a passing bout may have ended In n score, but Kupe passed rather wildly to Stewart, who had a clear run in, and Star forced The game ended a little later with no alteration in the score which was: Clifton, ID; Star, U. Mr. J JohuBon was referee. Messrs. W. Roch and D Geroge were line umpires.

SECOND JUNIORS. CLIFTON v. TUKAPA. At Western Park on Saturday Clifton second juniors met and defeated Tukapa second Juniors by 16 points to 8 The game was a good one and much closer than the scores indicate Mr H. Johnson was referee, and during tile second spell had occasion to order a Clifton play«r <,ff the field. Star second juniors defeated High School B by 11 points to nil.
