MILKING SHORTHORNS. MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. Mr J. Hodges presided over a Aieetlng of the Council of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association, which was hold at Palmerston North. The council decided to pay additional prises of £3 each to the winners In the classes for sonlor two, three, and four-year-olds obtaining the highest records for 1918, on the basis of final qualifications for the year, as forwarded by the Departmont, the winners being: Dominion Lottie of Ruaknra, senior two-yew-' old; Snow, senior three-year-old; Lowlands Countess, senior four-year-old. The recommendation from the Waikato Executive that the council issue certificates in addition to the prizes for class leaders, and that class lender record-holders for New Zealand bis awarded special certificates,'to be held by'the winners until, beaten, was deferred until,the annual meeting; alsoi a proposal-to award.specials of £1 for every lOOty of butterif.it pro', duced over the amount ' required'' to qualify; The allocation of iprlzes foe; A. 1 and-P.'shbws was considered. . The council agreed lo support any propoialfor united action to-'-be taken l with a view ,tQ having payments, made.on,a" moro equitable basis, as it was clearly shown that the larger 'producing breeds were suffering on the present .basis of payment by cheese and dried milk factories. The question of revising the rules was considered, and It was decided to have a draft copy forwarded to each member of the council, and a revised draft bo submitted to the annual meeting of the Association, to bo held at Palmerston during the show in November.
On the question of transfers, it was reported that animals were being sold on transfer before being entered, and passed for registration. It was decided to Issue a notice that all stock must be registered or accepted for registration before sale, otherwise no guarantee of a transfer to tho purchaser could be given; also that although the progeny of registered stock were eligible for registration, they were all subject to iaspectton by an official Judge of the Association, and no owners or stock agents could guarantee that these cattle would bo transferred unless they had been duly entered and passed for registration prior to sale. In connection with the annual pedigree sales, it was resolved to ask the Other Breeds AssoelatiOQ to appoint debates to a conference
with a view to placing these sales on. a better footing, and that more control: of same be undertaken by the A. and P. Association tad thr Breeds Association.
