It was stated that of those out of work 23 were willing to accept employment at ,the Otira TunnelThe secretary of the Repatriation Department wrote in reply with regard to girl clerks employed in the Bank of New Zealand, quoting extracts from the address of Mr. Beauchamp at the annual Meeting of the bank, and stating it was not considered necessary to take action in the matter. The reply waa classed as "camouflaging the issue, merely glossing matters over," and it was agreed to make further inquiries locally and interview Mr. William Reece, a director of the bank, on the matter.
