Two negroes were killed and many injured in the race riots Gangs of armed negroes attacked the tramways throughout the city, and cavalrymen, [infantrymen and police have been called out.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. I Received July 23, 12.5 a.m. Washington, July 21. Shooting occurred a short distance from the White House, where the president was lying ill.
