FIRES.

BLAZE AT RAETIHI. Taihapo, July 20. At 1 o'clock this morning a destructive fire occurred at Raetihi. The fire started in Wong Wong's grocery and fruit shop on the corner opposite the Post Ortlce, and, fanned by a strong breeze, spread to Charnock's furniture shop. The fire then travelled along the street, and in its course destroyed two other shops used as Charnock's furniture showroom. The next shop to go was Watson's (hairdresser and billiard saloon), and then Goodyer's stable caught and was gutted. The concrete wall of thfe picture theatre prevented the firo spreading further. Gharnock is a heavy loser, and estimates his loss at £I2OO above insurance. The total damage is assessed at over £SOOO.
