SOUTHERN MARKETS. EARLY SPRING EXPECTED. Christchurcli, July 15. The weather during the last few days has bean mild and springlike, and the general opinion is that the spring will be an early one. Since the late snow and rain there has been »lmo3t an absence of frost and autumn-sown grain crops have made good growth. There Is no change of note in the grain and seed marlcels, and there is not quite as keen an inquiry for seed lines now that the Weather has set in fine again. I'yfatoes are flvmer, there being a good inquiry from Wellington, but there is little shipping available for Auckland. The market price now offered to growers at country stations is £7 10s. Onions are now worth £ll at country stations. LONDON MARKETS, ? HI(M COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated .Inly 13, 1919, from the High Commissioner, London: "Imported moat, wholesale inarimuni prices now reduced. Reef: English sides, Is o ?Jii: USA, Canadian, 7%d, ll%d: South African, Brazilian, ti%d, lHid; other countries, 7%j1, 11%<1; fores and hinds respectively. Ketjill price* imported meat reduced r.ne penny per lb. Manila market firm and advancing, '.t' grade, shipment to be In August, September or October, has been sold for £.17 10s. New Zealand hemp market is'very quiet. The current spot quotations for New Zealand hemp: 'High-point fair,' £52; 'fair,' £sl; shipment to be July to September." GRADING OF WHEAT. Timuru, July 15. The pjeeutivc of the South Canterbury Farmers' Union (representing all branches) at a meet'ng to-day complained that the Minister had evaded a reply to a practical suggestion regarding the grading of wheat, and that he had generally turned down the farmers' suggestions. It was decided to ask that the price for next year's wheat bo Gazetted at o'nee, and to Inform the Minister that unless the grading system was amended it would have a bad effect on wheat-growing.
