ATHOL— RADISH CONTEST. The Town Hall at Manala was well filled on Monday evening to witness the champion wrestling match between Athol, the Australian stroug man and middle-weight champion, and Matty Radish, Tnranaki champion. At different periods ot the wrestling the excitement was Intense. The agreement between the two contstants was flflen-mlnute bouts nnd flve-mlnutc spells. Before the championship wrestle took place Mr. Gardiner gave an exhibition of different holds of cateh-as-catch-can. Mr. Drake was chosen as referee. Mr. Cowern, of Hawera, was Matty Radish's supporter, and Mr, Pcttit, Athol's. Matty Eadisli was on the offensive right throughout every bout, and after wrestling with his powerful opponent for over 2*4 hours, he succeeded In registering a fall aga'.nst Athol. Afterwards Athol refused to continue the contest, and the match was awarded to Matty Radish. Radish is to he cqngratulta.il on his win. The verdict of the" referee seemed to give every satisfaction to the large aud'ence. Athol put up a very Btrong fight, and considering it took 2% hours to register a fall against him, showed that he was very hard to beat.

Between Ihe bouts Mr. .7. O'Neil, the West Coast champion feather-weight boxer of tho South Island, gave an exhibition of shadow boilng, which was much appreciated by all proscnt.—Star.
