LORD LIVERPOOL'S RETURN; By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 16. The Governor-General and party are coming direct from Suva to Gisborne in tho Tutanekai and are expected to arrive there on July 22. They will visit Napier the following day and reach Wellington on the 24th. The vessel is meeting with bad weather.; RAILWAYS AND ESSENTIAL GOODS. ■ Auckland, July 1& - The Auckland Farmers' Union passed * resolution protesting against the blocking on the railways of absolutely necessary commodities, and urgently calling on the Government to immediately classify purely essentia! goods as distinct from non-essential goods, such as material, plant, "etc., for dairy freezing and manme works, which is essentially necessary in the interests of production. '
AN, EX-EMPLOYEE'S SPITE.
Dannevirkei July 18. The decision of Mr, E. Page, SJtf., was given to-day in an unusual case of interest to picture theatre proprietors. Thomas Augustus Petheriek, formerly of Dannevirke, was charged with having wilfully done damage to the electric installation at the Arcadia Picture Theatre to the extent'of 2s 6<L The evidence showed that on tho evening on which the Arcadia Picture Company dispensed with Petherick's services the lights in the theatre suddenly went out at the end of the performance before tho audience had got out of the building. Petheriek, when requested to put on the electric lights for the purposes of the directors' meeting, refused and subsequently it was found that a wire had been cut in the operating box wEicJi affected the lights and would have prevented showing the pictures the following evening, but for the discovery of the fault. The Magistrate convicted Petheriek and fined him £6 and cost 3 £9 lis 6d, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Security was fixed for an appeal.
TIMARU>S HOSPITAL REQUIREMENTS.
. Timaru, Last Night. The Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Health, attended a meeting of the Hospital Board and discussed the request for a consumptive sanatorium in this district. He said the Government proposed to provide four large sanatoria, besides those now existing, and recommended tho boards ,to co-operate and select sites from which the Department could make a choice.
The board also asked for a St. Helen's hospital, and gave instances showing the need for one. The Minister said the board ahould provide a maternity home by hiring a building to test ,the need for one, and said the district was .large enough and wealthy enough to do this. The board agreed to consider the-.sug-gestion at a later date.
