Mr. Hugh O'Reilly, of Eraser's Pharmacy, has received word iliat he has passed his final for a chemist and druggist. Christehurcli reports the deuth of Mr, Danvers Hamber, well-Known in racing circles, and for several years editor of the Referee.
A Sydney cablegram states that Commanuer Boyle, V.C., who is in charge of the gift submarines, has been lent by the Admiralty for three years a'a instructor in submarine work The Australian Government Statistician, Mr. Knibbs, has been selected to represent Australia at the dou'jle-in-nome tax conference in London nest September.
The condition of Mr. E. Beilringer, who has been a patient in tho Xe* Plymouth Hospital for some days, is such as to cause iiis relativen grave unxiety. Mr and Mrs. Parr, Westown, have received word that their sons. Sergeant W, H. and K. J. Parr, are returning bv H.M.T. Briton, which is due on the 21st. At a meeting of the New Pl.v.-.iouth Pire Brigado on Tuesday evening, Fireman S. Roberts was presented vith a further service bqr, thus having completed 21 years' continuous service.
Mrs. F Prewin, of Spotswocd, has received word that her son, Rifleman B. Prewin, is returning by the Briton, which is due at Wellington about tho 21st inst.
' It is stated that the Rev. STcvil! Barnett, of Pataa, has been offfcvil mid accepted charge of tho Upper Histt (Wellington) Parochial District. Mr. Herbert Martin, Pman Bos'l.'has received cable advice that his son, Private A. J. Martin, of tho 33rJ Reinforcements, is returning by H.MT.' Briton, due in Wellington about July 21st.
On the recommendation of the medical superintendent of the hospital Nurse V. Stanton was appointed by ,the Board yesterday to the vacant sistorsnip caused by the resignation of Sister Patchell.
Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, who has filled the position of Stipendiary Magistrate at Chriatchurch for the past tiin years, is being removed to New Plymouth, vice Mr. Crooke, resigned. Mr. Bailey leaves there in abous six weeks.—Press Assn. Mr. Balph Steele, one of the heads of the Steele-Payne Bellringers and Entertainers, died of a paralytic stroke a few weeks ago at Durban, where the company was then performing Mr. Steele was n native of Bolton, Lancashire. He joined the Payne family in Australia! ■ and married Miss Lizzie Payne, the eldest daughter.
At a meeting ofHhe executive of the Taranaki Bowling Centre held yesterday, sympathetic reference was' mado to the death of Mrs. R Lanibie, and n resolution of condolence was passed with Mr. Lambie, a past president of the centre, and Mr. W. Lambie, a member of the executive, in their bereavement.
