THE VICTORY FETES. ! INAUGURATED BY MARSHALS. A TOUCHING CEREMONY. Received July 14, 8.5 p.m. Paris, July 13. It is estimated that .there are six million visitors in the city for the Victory Fetes, which began to-day, and were witnessed by eight million people. Marshals Joft're, Foch, and Petain inaugurated the week's festivities by attending the military sports in the Tuilleries Gardens. Thence the Marshals proceeded to the Hotel de Ville and received the swords of honor presented by the City of Paris. M. Poincare (President) presented to Marshal Foch a golden laurel wreath. Crowds thronged the boulevards, which were brilliantly illuminated in the evening. Hundreds of public dances were arranged in the streets and squares, while thousands of people are staying up all to-night to secure front places to view Monday's parade of Allied troops. A'.touching ceremony took place at the Arc de Triomphe, where crowds foregathered to place' flowers on the cenotaph in memory of the dead. M. Poincare lias presented to the City of Amiens the Legion of Honor. The Paris waiters are resuming work— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
