HISTORY OF THE WAR.

1 NEW ZEALAND PLANS. The popular history of the part taken by New Zealand in the war will con- ' sist of four volumes. The first, dealing with the Gallipoli campajgn, will be written by llaior Waite, D.5.0., and it is understood tTuTE this volume is being written now. Another volume will deal with the campaign in Palestine, but it has not yet been decided who is to write it. The story of the fighting of the New Zealand Division in France will be in another volume, to be written by Colonel Stewart, who as a civilian was a professor at Canterbury College. The f ourth volume will contain a miscellaneous collection of matter, dealing with ';hc raising and training of the force aiiu the reinforcements in New Zealand, the hospitals in England, and all the work of the Command in the United Kingdom, the finance of the war, and last of all New Zealand's part in the peace negotiations. There are to be seventeen chapters In this last volume, every chapter dealing with a particular phase of the war activity and work of New Zealand. The official history of tho war will be another publication, but not for general reading. It will be for record with the Defence authorities, and witli the Imperial authorities. As affecting the fighting it, will deal with strategy and tactics, and will also detail the measures taken by tlie Government to meet the exigencies of war, possibly with account of the success or failure of expedients tried. This record will be valuable. It may be that one day New Zealand men will be called on a sain 11 fight for their liberty, but it. will in all human probability not be the present generation of men.
