SIGNS OF TRIAL BEING DROPPED. PRINCE HENRY'S APPEAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 10, 8 p.m. London, July 9. Tho Manchester Guardian states that there are signs in familiar channels that the trial of the ex-Ivaiser may be dropped. Paris newspapers suggest that Britain alone is demanding his extradition.
Berlin messages state that Prince Henry of Prussia telegraphed to King George, denying his brother's responsibility for beginning the war, and appealing to King George "in the name of' justice" not to proceed with the extradition. Prince Henry, in the same message, offers himself to assist in elucidating the causes of the war.
The Daily Chronicle's Berlin correspondent reports that thousands of men and women are offering to act as substitutes for the ex-Kaiser, including Prince Friedrich Wilhclm of Lippe. Societies are being formed to prevent the trial of the war criminals.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. PREVENTING HIS ESCAPE. Received July 10, 8 p.m. London, July 9. Correspondents state that the Kaiser professes himself undisturbed regarding tho future. Most of the Dutch favor handing him over if trade reprisals are threatened, otherwise the strong proGerman influence in high quarters will prevail. Wilhelm has sawn his Goooth tree. His ambi.tion is to total 10,000 by Autumn, when he hopes he will be living in his own house.
Utrecht correspondents say that the Crown Prince's waywardness, frivolity, and recklessness, has bred utter contempt, and no finger would be raised to save him.
The officers, including submarine commanders, have announced that they will not submit themselves to be tried. Several have taken fefuge in neutral countries; others threaten suicide. The Officers' Association is appealing to Allied and neutral officers.
