RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.

GENERAL MEETING, A well attended meeting of the Returned Soldiers' Association was held at the Club rooms last night, Captain Hartnell presiding. Mr. 0. West (Wood Eros.) was unanimously elected secretary in successioa to Mr. W. Ellis.

The Chairman moved, in accordance with the executive's recommendations, that the secretary's remuneration be lixed at £BO per annum. He said the committee recognised was a great deal of work to do m connection with the oSie of secretary. Mr. H. Howell seconded the motion and appealed to the members for wholehearted support to the secretary and the executive. The motion was carried unanimously. It was decided to hold the annual club Social as usual, and the following committee was appointed to make all the necessary arrangements;— Messrs. A. Hooker, S. Higgs, S. Oliver, G. E. Roper, and H. Jenkinson.

The following committee was elected to make arrangements for the annual ball: The officers of the Association, and Ueut. A. R. Standish, Lieut. S. Buyers, Messrs. W. Roch, W. P. Okey, S. Higgs, and N. Howell,

A discussion took place o.n the question of the financial position of the Association and its future policy, and it was decided that the executive of the association meet with the committee cf the Soldiers' Club and consider what court should be adopted. It was decided to hold a re-uniofl dinner on the occasion of the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand and Lord Jelliooe to New Plymouth; that failing the New Zealand visiting New Plymouth the reunion still be held. The committee to carry out the function was as follows: The officers of the Association, and Colonel C. H. Weston, Lieut. A. R. Standish, Messrs. A. S. Allen, and W. P. Okey. The delegates to the Chriatchurch confero ce submitted a report to the meeting. In speaking on it Mr. E. B. Ellerm stated that Messrs. Batten and Harper, of the Association, would in all probability be coming to New Plymouth to give addresses on various matters of interest to the association and to the public. He suggested that an effort should be made to get the general secretary of the association to visit New Plymouth and that tlj,e three should be asked to make a visit on the same date, and that a public meeting be held for the purpose of placing before returned soldiers and the public, the aims of the association and other matters of vital interest to the returned soldiers.

The suggestion was readily adopted, and the secretary was instructed to endeavour to make arrangements for such a meeting. The delegates (Captain P. L. Hartnoll and Mr. Eilerm) were thanked for attending tho conference, and for the concise manlier in which their report was "sented. It was decided to send a letter to the retiring secretary expressing the association's thanks for his services in the past. It was also resolved to send a letter of sympathy to the president (Lieut.Colonel Chaplain Evans) in his illness.
