The engagement is announced of Miss Nellie Bendall, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bendall, New Plymouth, to Mr. Ar.thur S. Allen, secretary of the Repatriation Committee, New Plymouth. • • # •
Last Thursday evening Miss Wade gave a most enjoyable party in honor of Miss Burnett (Wanganui) and Miss Nancy Le Cren (Christchurch), both of whom are her guests. The guessing competition . was won by Mrs Ward, while Mrs B. Chaney tied for the "booby," and upon drawing Mrs Chaney won.
SOCIETY MEWS.
A very enjoyable little dance, arranged by a committee of girls, was held in the Kawaroa Park bungalow on Wednesday evening. The decorations, which were charming, had quite'a Japanese effect. The chaperones were: Mrs Bullard, violet crcpe-de-chine; Mrs Hutchen, black satin; and Miss Wood, wine floral silk. Among those present were: Mrs Eliot, Miss Kit M'Cleland, Miss Jordan, Miss D. WEDDINGS. PEARCE—JURY. A pretty, but quiet, wedding was solemnised at St. Mary's Church on June 24th., toe Rev. F. S.' Harvey officiating, when Miss Emma Jury, eldest* daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Jury, was married to Mr. Alfred Pearce, son of Mrs. E. C. Pearce. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a cream gaberdine costume and hat to match. She carried a white prayer book with white streamers. The bridesmaid—Miss Hilda Jury, sister of the bride, wore a navy blue costume and vieux-rose hat. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. C. Jury as best man.
LANDERS-DOYLE. A quiet wedding was solemnised on Wednesday, at the Catholic Church, Manaia, when Mr. John Joseph Landers, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Landers, Kaupokonui, was married to Miss Frances Josephine Doyle, youngest daughter of the late Michael and Mrs. Doyle, Manaia. The ceremony was performed by tho Rev. Father Saunderson, who also celebrated the Nuptial Mass. The bride, who was given away by. her brother-in-law, j/tr. P. Brophy, wore a, smart tailored,-navy costume and blue hat, and carried a beautiful whits prayer-book, the gift of her sister (Sister M. James). ■ The bridesmaid (Miss Doyle) wore a pretty grey, dress and hat to match. The Ibridegroom was attended by his Ibroroer, Mr. Francis Landers, a* best man. As the bridal party left the church, the Wedding March vas played.by Mi*. Tiles.! After the wedding cereipony tiie guests were entertained at breakfast'at thi reei* donee, oif the bride's mother, when the usual 1 toasts were honored. Subsequently the newly-wedded couple left iby motor for Wanganni, en route for Christohurch, where the honeymoon will be spent—i Star.
