ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
ALMOST SUFFOCATED. By Telegraph.—Pi-eu Association. Auckland, Night. A family named Rucastle, residing in! Newton, had a narrow escape from iufJ location this morning. The family Waai in ,bed. One of them was awakened by of smoke. The building war filled with smoke, and after aßsi&tanoe was obtained all the occupants wen got. out safely. Mrs. Rucastle was so over* come with the fumes that she wai pent to the hospital. The cause of the accident was the fusing of electric Wires, this causing dense fumes to be given off from the casing on the wires.
. A BOY DROWNED. Gisborne, Last Night. This afternoon, on the occasion of & school holiday for the signing of the. peaoe treaty, Frederick Jitmes PilEnjrton. eleven years, left home with a younger brother to play on the beach. The rtder lad afterwards returned home by MmSelf for fishing tackle. Two hours later bod y seen floating in the Tut ranganui River near the centre of tha town. Recitation methods were applied for two hours, but with no avail.
