WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, July 3, Constable 'La Pouple, who has been away on leave owing to ill health, returned on Tuesday night, considerably better for his holiday, though he is not expected to resume duty for &Dout a fortnightThe ketch Tukua, which has been laid up at Waitara for some time, has, 1 understand, been purchased by Messrs McNeill and Stainton, of New Plymouth, who intend to trade between Opunake, Mokau, Vr aitara., and the coaßtal port®. The Diggers' Dance is to be held in the Clifton Hall to-night. Mr. J. Taylor l is supplying • the music and Messrs V, Proctor and E. W. Frost are to be M's'C. The Clifton County Council seem to be experiencing great difficulty in keeping a bridge foreman. They are at. present without one. It is a very scattered district, and the men find that they can be very little at home, and that condition does not appeal to most married men. A meeting of the newly appointed Waitara Fire Board is to be held on Friday afternoon, to consider estimates of expenditure for the ensuing year and other business. The s.s. Armagh is expected to arrive outside Waitara to load beef, etc., for Home about Saturday.
A very poor response has been met with to the appeal for funds for building a nurses' recreation hall, only £4 12s having been subscribed. The Mayor is sending the money in this week.
