FOOTBALL.
YESTERDAY'S MATCHES. The mtaeh between Star and High School was postponed, And Inglewood did not come in to play their match with the Technical College. TUKAPA (3) v. STRATFORD (0). This game, decided at Westown Park yesterday, proved one of the most Interesting bouts of football this season The high "wind prevailing did not Improve tho playing conditions, which were further hampered by the greasy nature of the ground and passing showers. Stratford had a strong team in tho field, and, had the day been favorante, football must have resulted. 'fhero were many Instances of combined back play that indlr.itt d better football as the season progresses. The visitors possess a fine vanguard, their line out and scrum woTk being particularly effective. In the backs Stratford did not c mpare favorably with the Tukapa playsrs, who showed much better judgment in line kicking, and their fielding was much nippier. Individual!}', Coutfs, for Stratford, stood out prominently as the back for the day, and of tho forwards, Masters indicated that he was Tight w to form. Although lacking the weight of their nppouents, the Tukapa forwards surprised -heir supporters by their determined and accurate tackling, I while their work in the loose was exceptionally good. Whlttaker and the Oliver broth».TS were prominent in defensive play amongst the backs, whilst Hurley seems a most promising forwaid. Tukapa, playing with the wind, scored a try, Hurley touching down from a loose, scrambling rush, and this was the only score, although both teams had a few attempts at goalinj from penalties. Mr. Humphrey was leferee.
