Dunedin, July e. ~ The Miners' Federation have forwarded proposals to the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Association for a new agreement, and asking for a conference. The proposals include the abolition of the contract system; that miners be paid £1 daily, trackers and horse-drivers and men in charge of the rope ro&d 17a fld per day. ,

The hours of work shall be sewn from bank to bank immediately, and on January 1, mi, the hours shall be redaoed to six from bank to bank} pay to be weekly, every (Friday afternoonji'twry Saturday to be an idle day; no coal to be hewed other than on the day shift; the hows of work in wet places to be five from bank to bank; no truekttig to be done by the miners, and not more than one shift to be done in 24 hours; the company to provide free light, tools, and house coal to all workers. All workers shall be granted a fortnight's holiday on full pay each year, the holiday to be from December 23 to January 5 inclusive. The Easter holiday to be from Good IViday to Easter Tuesday inclusive. Other holidays to be May Day and Labor Day.
