HYDRO-ELECTRIC LEAGUE. Wellington, Last Night. By Telegraph.—Press Association. The Mangahao Hydro-electric League held its annual meeting to-day. The committee's report, after referring to the fact that a start had been made on the construction of works, said it Was understood tha Government not desire to do.any local reticulation, preferring this Co be left to local bodies. It would be necessary, therefore, for the local bodies to, ascertain the number of residents prepared to use the power when available and arrange fpr theis reticulation schemes accordingly. "•Mr. E- H. Crabb was re-elee,ted president, and a vigilance committee was appointed.
PROPOSED REVISION OF FORESTRY < KEGULATIONS. Wellington, Last Night. A conference of < West Coast local bodies and the sawmilling industry met Sir Francis Bell to-day. Lengthy addresses were made, and the whole question of forestry regulations wftß discussed at great length, and the position from the West Coast viewpoint was strongly urged. Sir Francis, in reply, was decidedly hostile to the representation for revision of the regulations. His statement of the. position was received with disapproval and dißmay. The conference subsequently resolved to enter a strong protest and make every endeavor to secure the repeal of those j portions of the regulations which were | considered a? bound to strangle the sawi milling industry on the West Coast.
PROPOSED CONFERENCE OF MAYORS. Christchuroh, Last Night. ■ Regarding the proposed conference of Mayors convened by the Mayor df Christchurch, which it was hoped to hold this month, Dr. Thacker states that tse' general consensus of the replies favors the conference being held after the municipal conference; About one-third of the replies received were :from Mayors who would like tp.cqnia to Christchurch to investigate matters connected with the hydro-electric installation, The ChristMmreh conference will'be held after the Municipal conference;,
CUSTOMS REVENUE. Wellington, Last Night, ' The customs revenue collected in the Dominion in June -vns £282,632, and the excise liper duty amounted to £23,202. The figures* for .June, 1918, were £253,382 ami £19,375. CHURCH UNION. Tnvercarglll, Last Night Out of 17 Presbyterian' churches in Southland which responded to the invitation of the Presbytery to send opinions respecting church union, only two were against the proposal to approach the General Assembly and request It to undertake negotiations wi,th other Congregational churches.
