A MARINE INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 28. A magisterial' inquiry concerning the recent mishap to the steamer Westmoreland at the Bluff will, be opened at Invercargill on July 4. The assessors will be Captains Neville and Suudstrum.
SNOW IN THE SOUTH. Christchurch, June 28. The snow on the Cashmere Hills is lying a foot deep on the flats, and from three feet to six feet in the drifts. SPECIAL VENEREAL CLINICS. Wellington, June 28. In a statement made by the Hon. G. W. Russell, he said that to cheek the spread of venereal disease in the Dominion the Public Health Department has requested the various hospital boards throughout the Dominion to start special venereal climes in the hospitals under their control. The necessity for such clinics was emphasised owing to cases arising out of war conditions. The clinics are to be held in the evening, and are open to civilians as well as to military patients. Whilst it is compulsory for military patients "to attend these clinic 9 till they are cured, the attendance of civilian patients is voluntary.
The Health Department has reported that it is necessary that compulsory measures be adopted in reference to civilian venereal cases, and, with this in view, the Minister proposes asking Parliament to pass a Bill giving the necessary Powers. The organisation of the clinics has been placed in the hands of a specially trained medical officer, who was returned to New Zealand for the purpose from England. TIMBER WORKERS' CONFERENCE.

The Timber Workers' Conference has concluded. It was decided to request the Government to enact legislation compelling - the owners of sawmills to bti ill room and drying room accommodation for workers in sawmills. A resolution was passed expressed the conference's opinion that the time had arrived for the organisation of industrial departments covering all workers in the building and woodworking trades, and that the national executive be instructed to call a conference of all the workers' organisations involved. It was decided that the national executive be located at Ohristchurch for the ensuing vear. with Mr. Hiram Hunter as secretary. The next conference is set down for Wellington in June of 1920.
