BOWLING.
ANNUAL MEETING OP TARAMAKI CENTRE The annual meeting of the Taranakl Bowling Centre was held at Messrs. Perclval and Messei ger's offlge, Inglewood, on Thursday afternoon. Mr. J. D. Sole (vice-president) occupied the chair, and there were present: Messrs. W, McDonald and J. W. McMillan (Stratford), P. Spurdle and W. E. Perclval (Inglewood), A. K. Smart, 0. N. Firth, C. N. Johnson. (New Plymouth), F. J. Hill (West End), F. H. Jackson (Ftteroy), A. T. Moore (Vogeltown). Apologios were received from Mr. R. Lambis (president) and Mr. W. Lamble (Plhama). Before proceeding with the ordinary business a letter was received from the Vogeltown Club applying for affiliation to the centre, and til is was agreed to.
ANNUAL REPORT. The nnnual report stated that there was * credit balance of £47 Os 7d, against £3B 12s Td last year. The total from all sources amounted to £215 13s lOd, the 'major portion being made up pf receipts In connection with the nnnual tournament, fehlch totalled £l5O 181 Od. The annual subscriptions to the centre brought in £24 12s 9d, and the actual centre expenses were £2O 7a Id, whilst the expenditure In connection with the tournament was £l4O 10s 2d.
After referring to the various tournaments and competitions played throughout the year, regret was expressed that on account of the paucity of entries the Easter pairs tournament had to be abandoned. Vogeltown was the only new club formed during the year. On receiving notice of his transfer to Wanganui Mr. O. N. Firth resigned from the secretariat, and Mr. A. T. Moore, New Plymouth, was elected to fill the vacancy. During the year a sum of £9l 9s was handed lo the Taranakl War Relief Association, being tho amount collected by the various clubs In the centre for patriotic purposes. Tho thanks of the centre was expressed to those clubs which granted the use of their greens for the various games, to the press for publicity given to bowling news, and especially to the ladles for their generous assistance In connection with afternoon teas on various occasions during the season. \ The report and balance sheet were adopted on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Perclval.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follows for the ensuing year: President, Mr. J. D. Sole; vicepresident, Mr. F. Spurdle; executive, Messrs. A. K. Smart, J. W. McMillan, F. H. Jackson, F. J. Hill, W. Lamble and C. N. Johnson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. T. Moore; auditor. Mr. W. E. Perclval. It was decided to grant the retiring secretary Mr. Firth, a bonus of £5 5s in appreciation of his services to the centre, and Mr. A. T Moore, who took office towards the close of the year, was voted £2 2s. It was decided to increase the secretary's honorarium from £lO 10s to £ls 15s, in view of the additional amount of work Involved due to the growth of the centre. GENERAL. It was decided to hold the annual tournament towards the end of January, the date 3 and other matters connected with It being left to the executive to be decided.
After a considerable amount of dismission it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Firth, seconded by Mr. Sole, that the Easter pairs tournament be played on the Inglewood and Stratford greens next year, provided the greens were available, the arrangements being left in the hands of the executive.
The system adopted in connection with the annual tournament was severely criticised, and It was ultimately agreed to await' the decision of the Dominion Association regarding the conditions under which the Dominion tournament will be played.
Exception was taken to tournament games being played on a Sunday, and it was explained that the one match that was played on a Sunday was arranged between the two rinks concerned because one of the players hit to leave on the Monday on very importa*. business. ™j~«m™.
The question of boundaries for the banner competition was referred to the executive Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing officers; the Inglewood Club for making arrangements for holding the annual, meeting, and Its hospitality, and to Messrs. Perclval and Messenger for placing their offices at the disposal of the centre for the meeting.
