In the House of Representatives Mr Watt stated that the War Ministry was considering the question of negotiating with Canada and New Zealand with the view of establishing trade reciprocity. HOSTEL FOR INEBRIATES. Melbourne, June 27. The Federal Government is establishing hostels in each capital city for the treatment of soldiers suffering from alcoholism. WIRELESS TELEPHONES. Melbourne, June 27. In the Senate a Bill has been introduced extending tho scope of the Wireless Telegraphy Act to ensure Government control of wireless telephones. ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION. Received June 27, 1.30 p.m. New York, June 20. The Rockefeller Foundation announces that it spent 22,500,000 dollars on war work. Among the projects undertaken in 1918 were: A campaign against tuberculosis in France and co-operation for improved public health in Australia in connection with the hookworm research.
POISONED CANNED GOODS. Received June 27, 11.5 p.m. Melbourne, Last Night. The House discussed the reports of German agents in America poisoning canned foods shipved to the Dominions. The Minister of Customs promised the strictest investigation. THE FREEMAN CASE. Melbourne, Last Night. Mr. Watt, in explaining Freeman's deportation, stated that evidence pointed to the fact that Freeman was a German advocate of the I.W.W. doctrine and refused to be naturalised. A CABINET MEMBER RESIGNS. Melbourne, Last Night. •Mr. 'Bowser, Chief Secretary, has resigned from the Victorian Cabinet owing to a split with Mr. Lawson. RETURN OF A CRUISER. , Melbourne, Last Night. The cruiser Brisbane, with one of the submarines presented by the Imperial Government, has arrived.
