VARIOUS RESOLUTIONS. I By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Nigiji. The Council of Education concluded its sittings to-day. The council agreed that training colleges be under departmental control and normal schools under-local administration.
The graded salary scheme, dl Urged by the Secondary School Assistant Teachers' Association, was also approvoq. ~T The proposals of Mr. Uaughley, assistant director, embodying the redistribution of teachers in accordance With the new classification, better payment for sole and head teachers in the country schools, regulations for minimising employment of uncertificated teachers m country schools, the opening of the superannuation fund to probationers, .the extension of the hostel system inepttnjetion with training colleges, and alio* for pupil teachers and assistants id the country were adopted. The Hon. Fleming strenuously pleaded the cause of the back blocks settlers, M d the council agreed that more liberal provisions should be made for edueatlou in these districts.
The council resolved that, having due regard to the present conditions and future needs of education in this Dominion, (hero is urgent need for 'the immediate granting of a substantial incmse isvthe salaries of inspectors and teachers. ■
