Mr. Hughes is to leave for Australia on Jury i." The Right Rev. Hubert Murray Burge, D.D., formerly headmaster of Reptonand Winchester, and since 1911 Bishop of Southwark, has been appointed Bishop of Oxford, in succession to Bishop Gore.
Major Cox returned to'Hawera by the mail train las,t night, after an absence of sis weeks at Christchurch, where he received treatment for old wounds.'
Sergt. T. R. Weir, of Eltham, who returned by the Waimana, will, after recuperating (the Argus states) return to Siam, where he holds an important en; gineering position with gold dredges. At a special meeting of the Kaponga Town Board last week a resolution of sympathy and condolence with the family of the la,te Cr. Forster, and expressing the regret of members at the loss sustained by the board and the community by his decease, was unanimously adopted.
The death occurred at Wellington on Wednesday evening of Mr. Hamilton Gilmer, well known in business circles in Wellington. The late Mr. Gilmer was bom in Broomfleld, County Monaghan, Ireland, in 1838, and came out to Australia in 1860. In the early sixties he adventured to Gabriel's Gully, Otago, and later ta»fche West Coast. He came to Wellington in 1881, and engaged in various business enterprises. He had large brewery and hotel interests. He was a prominent member of St. Peter's Church, and was also a member of the Legislative Council—l9o7 till IM4. In 1871 Mr. Gilmer paid a visit to his native village, and while fiere married Miss Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters. The sons are Dr. H, Gilmer, Mr. Knox Gilmer, both of Wellington, and Mr. Samuel Gilmer (the last-named saw active service with the Imperial forces In Mesopotamia, and is now in England). The daughters are Mrs. Ztele, of Sydney, and Mrs. Dr. Herbert, of Wellington.
