The death occurred at Wellington on Wednesday evening of Mr. Hamilton Gilmer, well known in business circles in Wellington. The late Mr. Gilmer was bom in Broomfleld, County Monaghan, Ireland, in 1838, and came out to Australia in 1860. In the early sixties he adventured to Gabriel's Gully, Otago, and later ta»fche West Coast. He came to Wellington in 1881, and engaged in various business enterprises. He had large brewery and hotel interests. He was a prominent member of St. Peter's Church, and was also a member of the Legislative Council—l9o7 till IM4. In 1871 Mr. Gilmer paid a visit to his native village, and while fiere married Miss Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters. The sons are Dr. H, Gilmer, Mr. Knox Gilmer, both of Wellington, and Mr. Samuel Gilmer (the last-named saw active service with the Imperial forces In Mesopotamia, and is now in England). The daughters are Mrs. Ztele, of Sydney, and Mrs. Dr. Herbert, of Wellington.
