The visit of the Coal Commissioner to Waitara has resumed in an ultimatum that not more tli.'.n two sack® of coal may be purchasod from a dealer at one time by any pereon, except under special, circumstances, when, upon the order of the Mayor, who has been asked to act as representative "of .the Coal Control Board for Waitara, more may be obtained. The commissioners ask the people to use more wood and coke and save the coal, but , wood is almost as scarce as coal, so this is hardly possible. Altogether, the outlook is not very pleasant. The sub-committee having the memorial gate proposal in hand have advised the purchase of gates four feet wide, costing £56. Other costs would bring tip total up to £7O. The committee, with the consent of the Borough Council, have decidedPto go on with the work. The Clifton' Football Club have had a good hearing in getting men into the ,north team, which is to play the south on Saturday, five forwards and five backs having been picked to play. They are; Backs: Full, McKoy; three-quarters, Goodwin and Stewart; . five-eighths, Kupe; half, Crowley- Forwards: Tate,, Fuller, Soffe, J. Manui, A. Lash. Emergencies: Forwards, J. Taylor and •'(}. Skelton;, back, f&George.
