RETURNING SOLDIERS.
TROOPSHIPS MAUNGANUI AND WAIMANA ARRIVE. Dunedin, June S3, j The Maungatiui arrived, at the Dunedin wharf at 11.30 a.m. to-day. She had a good voyage; the troops are well; there-are only six cot cases. They were given a splendid time at Colon. The New Zealand Division Pierrot troupe is on board. The northerners left by special train Boon after twelve o'clock, and will cross by ferry to-night. The Maunganui carried an English •mail, the northern portion of which was dispatched by the special troop* train.. Auckland, June 23.
The transport Waimaoa arrived this morning with 1675 returning soldiers, inbluding Private James Crighton, V.C., of Auckland, Lieut.-Colonel Allen, D.5.0., who commanded the 2nd Auckland Battalion, and his brother, Lieut-Colonel R. C. Allen, D.S.O. Lieut-Colonel 8- S. Allen was given, a reception by the men of his old battalion.
The troops are'all class A (fit meal sand their behaviour during-the voytigewas excellent. Sapper M. D. Campbell, of Masterton, died suddenly from heart failure while engaged-in what is known as-spar boxing. There were a few cases of mumps, .otherwise the health of all was excel(lent : '
