, TRADES TTAT,Ti PROPOSALS REJECTED. By Telegraph.—Press A'-sa.—Copyrijht. Melbourne, June 20. Mr Watt has rejected the Tradeß' Hall proposals for the settlement of the seamen's strike. He declines to indicate their nature. FOOD SHORTAGE CAUSED. - Brisbane, June 20. .There is a serious shortage of food at the northern ports as the result of the seamen's strike. The police in several towns are issuing flour rations.
NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE STRIKERS. Received June 20, 10.45 p.m. Sydney, June 20. The stranded New Zealanders negotiated with the Seamen's Union with a view to manning the Moeraki. The seataen agreed, provided that only stranded New Zealanders and necessitous cases and soldiers are carried, and that the Union Company agrees to bring the crew back to Sydney. Inquiries here flailed to elicSt the company's intentions. NEW ZEALANDERS HELD UP. Christchurch, Last Night. I The Hon. G. W. Russell has been advised that in consequence of the shippingstrikes in Australia, the Union Company has stopped all sailings of their vessels to and from Australia. This decision will, Mr. Russell says, affect the Moeraki, which was to have left Sydney tomorrow with a large number of New Zealanders who have been stranded in Australia for some time.
