THE MINE-SWEEPERS.

MAIN FEATURES DESCRIBED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The mine-sweepers Geranium and Marguerite have been placed in quarantine, there being twelve cases of influenza on the former and two on the latter. The Mallow is free from influenza, and, providing there are no developments, will berth on Saturday. The vessels somewhat resemble destroyers, having a high forecastle head, two stump funnels amidships, and flush decks aft. They are a special type, designed and built for the work during the period of the war, and are manned by naval ratings. The vessels are of 1200 tons register, with engines developing 2000 horse-power, and are capable of steaming at 17 knots an hour. They, are 267 feet in length, the beam being 33 feet.
